Celebrating over 50 Years of Tradition

Welcome to the Lincoln Youth Symphony! The Lincoln Youth Symphony is one of the only youth orchestras in the country that is offered free of charge to its members. We owe this wonderful gift to the Lincoln Public Schools who have continuously offered support for over 50 years and to generous donations from the community.

Membership is by open to students in grades 9-12 from Lincoln, Nebraska who audition for acceptance each spring. Many of the members of the Lincoln Youth Symphony started their musical experience in the Junior Youth Orchestra, also supported through the Lincoln Public Schools. See JYO for more information about this orchestra for students in grades 6-9.

Musicians who participate in the Lincoln Youth Symphony enjoy a wide range of experiences. The orchestra rehearses for two and half hours each week and perform 3 concerts per year. In addition, the students are expected to participate in chamber music groups that perform as fundraisers for student trips. This year the orchestra is planning a trip to Austria and Hungary and fundraising is underway and the excitement is running high.

Tim Madvig, senior soloist, performs with the Lincoln Youth Symphony on February 7, 2010.
